May has come and gone… The spring weather has not decided to permanently stick around but those small glimpses have been magical. This month was a bit quieter than last month but none the less there were some special moments.

My husband was, and still is, an awesome athlete. In high school he played soccer and basketball. He grew up in a small town that really embraces community and is very deeply rooted in tradition. It’s the kind of town where those who grew up there stay and raise their own families there as well. A few months ago he received an email that he was going to be inducted into his high schools hall of fame. I thought that was adorable! They held a dinner and invited past inductees and the new inductees. Peter got to see his old coaches and classmates and was also honored with a ring. One of those super bowl kind of rings, which I thought was cute and corny all together. We didn’t go to high school together so I didn’t experience his glory days with him but it was nice to catch a glimpse of it in one night. Seeing his coaches talk about how great he was made me proud. In this picture he’s flashing that big shiny ring that now sits on the mantle in his man cave so he can reminisce on those days and one day tell our kids about them. Look at that face …

My husband and I co-lead the marriage connect group at our church. Every other week we get together and have a little curriculum we do and we hang out and talk about what marriage looks like in biblical terms. Through this group we’ve developed new friendships and have been learning a lot about our own marriage. We really enjoy having these people over our house and sharing our experiences with them. We decided to do a bowling night this week instead of meeting at our house. So a few of us went and just enjoyed sometime together. I have come to realize that I am actually pretty good a bowling! I had no idea and I still have no idea what I am doing but it’s fun. I am learning that it’s important to always surround yourself with people who believe in your marriage and believe in the idea of marriage. That’s why this group means so much to us because we believe in marriage and we want them to succeed.

Something you may or may not know is that I am a dance teacher. I teach ballet and tap to little ones twice a week and it’s the most rewarding job I have ever had. I love seeing their little faces light up when they learn something new and how excited they get to see me. I love those little girls. This week was teacher appreciation week and one of our lovely moms gifted her daughters’ teachers with a little something. I had completely forgotten it was teacher appreciation week and honestly didn’t think of myself as being eligible to receive anything. This was such an awesome surprise. I especially love that it was personalized and they took the time to even make a card that says “MANI thanks” … LOVE. It wasn’t the gift that I love the most, of course I loved it, nail polish that’s my love language, but it was the thought and the time put into it. The little ones even wrote me a letter each and it completely warmed my heart… so so sweet

I have been working at my company for a long time and have cultivated lots of relationships with my coworkers. Every year I get the moms in my department a little something for mother’s day. They’re all awesome moms to their kids and every once in a while when I need help with a recipe or some advice they’re always there. I usually get them something like flowers, a nail polish or a cupcake. This year I decided to be a bit more creative and made them these little bags filled with candy life savers and added a little note that said “ I appreciate you, because you’re a lifesaver”. They loved it… I think it’s the same thing I said above, it isn’t what you give it’s the thought and the time put into it that matters the most to people.

We hosted mother’s day at our home this year. I wanted to treat our moms and cook for them while they sat down and relaxed. I made it a very Portuguese night from the music we played to the traditional dinner and desert. For dinner I made Carne Alentejana – it’s a Portuguese meal made with pork, french-fries, clams and shrimp. It was my first time making it and I must say it was tasty. For desert I made Serradura. It’s a a super simple desert made with a graham trype of cracker and whipping cream. I decorated the table super girly and colorful and added some simple flowers. This night was about our moms and thanking them for everything they do for us. We love our moms.

I had just arrived home from work and was cleaning up the kitchen. I like leaving our front door open so Luka and Daisy can sit in the little mud room looking out. I noticed Luka was very much aware of something happening outside so I went over to see what he was looking at. To my surprise there were two ducks crossing the street and making their way over to our front lawn. They climbed up and literally came right by our steps. They weren’t afraid of me being there and were kind of just hanging out. Neighbors were walking by and asked me if they were real or little statues I added to my lawn. They were so cute… I have no idea where they came from since there isn’t any water near our home. None the less I loved having them over and hosting them on our lawn.

We had a four day weekend celebrating our friends that will be getting married in August. All the bridesmaids and groomsmen got together for a joint bachelor and bachelorette weekend in the Catskills. We AirBnB’d a home all to ourselves in the middle of the woods and enjoyed campfires and trampolines – I LOVE trampolines. It was such a nice time with friends and really getting to know each other. The boys decided to buy fireworks and launch them one night. It was magical and scary all at once. People in those areas are very different and probably think us city folk are crazy so we were afraid the neighbors might not like that we were disturbing their peace. In the end everything was ok and no one was injured from the fireworks. It made for lots of laughs throughout the rest of the weekend too. We stayed up late playing fun games and watching the boys come up with their own winning chant … omgosh I wish we had caught it on camera…. Priceless. It was an awesome weekend, that’s for sure.
June is now on its way and I hope it brings more adventure and hopefully some warmer weather.
Hope you had an awesome month!
